About Michele

Michele Menard is an interdisciplinary artist that has education and experience in theater, visual art and crafts, mask/puppetry, physical theater/clowning, vocal performance, music composition and creative writing.

She began her career in visual art ten years ago through her inspiration as an activity instructor working with developmentally disabled elderly at the Arc of SF. There she started to explore and honed her skills as a mix media artist using the mediums of glitter; chalks, oil pastels, crayons, watercolors, pen, fabric and collage.

She is also a talented craftswoman making hand painted boxes, wrapping paper, postcards, hand sewn dolls, aprons, purses, fashion accessories and other unique giftsHer mixed media paintings have been successfully shown n San Francisco California at galleries, local business, restaurants, cafés and private mural commission and as theater backdrops for Noble Voice Productions (a theater company she headed as Creative Director) and in Chicago, IL.

Some of Michele’s past education/trainings and accomplishments include: a theater internship with Double Edge Theater ( The Farm )where she learned the physical trainings of Polish director Growtoski and circus arts, years of trainings and performance in the vocal styles : Appalachian Gospel, Bulgarian, North Classical Indian, Cabaret. Opera and is a beginner student of accordion; a internship with the renowned Bread and Puppet Theater (Glover, VT), a scholarship to study with Jill Purce (the leading international pioneer of sound healing with emphasis in Mongolian/Tulvian Sacred Chanting) at Hollyhock Center in British Columbia; Creative Director for Noble Voice Production of which she directed, performed, wrote and produced in mixed media original operas and cabaret.

Michele has had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Eastern Europe (2008-2009) to study at the Amala Music to study Roma Gypsy vocals and accordion. She studied with a soloist with the The Mystery of Bulgaria—Womens choir in Sofia Bulgaria.

In her travels she worked with the WWoof organization interning with a organic farm in Serbia (IVAFOOD) and at a horse ranch called Linden Tree Retreat Center.She ended her trip working with the Ephinany Trust—The Arc as a art teacher/mentor to one time Romania Orphans in Sinaia Romanian.

She has recently transplanted back to the Bay area and so happy to share her new bag of tricks.

She had a successful art show at Cafe Que Tal in July and a great response to her premiere of her puppet show The Owl and the Pussycat of which she produced and directed at Paxton Gate in SF, CA.
